Parameshwara Stotram
Parameshwara Stotra
Prayer to the God Ultimate
Translated by P. R. Ramachander
Here is a prayer to the God ultimate. In some stanza it addresses Lord Shiva and in another Lord Vishnu but what it aims is to address God who is beyond such limited descriptions. It is extremely musical and taken from Stotra Rathnavali published by Gita press, Gorakhpur.
Jagadeesa sudheesa bhavesa vibho,
Parameshwara parathpara pootha pitha,
Pranatham pathitham hatha budhi balam,
Janatarana taraya thapithakam. 1
Hey Lord of universe, Hey Lord of good people,
Hey source of everything, Hey supreme one,
Hey primeval God, Hey very holy one, Hey son, Hey father,
I pray, take care of this sinner who lacks wisdom and strength,
And help me cross this painful life which is difficult to cross.
Guna heena sudheena malina mathim,
Thwayi pathari dathari chaparathim,
Thamasa rajasa vrutha vruthimimam,
Janatarana taraya thapithakam. 2
Oh God who helps people to cross this life,
Please help me, who am troubled by this life
Who does not have good qualities, who is miserable,
Who possesses a very dirty mind,
And who has base and egoistic personality,
To cross this life though I am,
Far away from your protective and endowing glance.
Mama Jeevana meenamimam pathitham,
Marughora bhveeha suveehamaho,
Karunabdhi chalomirjala nayanam,
Janatarana taraya thapithakam. 3
Oh God who helps people to cross this life,
I am a fish which has fallen in the arid desert of life,
And you can save me by a mere glance,
Of your eyes which are the ocean of mercy,
And so please help me to cross this trouble giving life.
Bhava vaarana karana karma thathou,
Bhava sindhujale shiva magnamatha,
Karunancha samarpaya thareem twaritham,
Janatarana taraya thapithakam. 4
Oh God who helps people to cross this day to day life,
Oh destroyer of universe and who is the cause of that universe,
I am drowned in this ocean of day to day life, Oh Lord Shiva,
And so please speedily give me the boat of your mercy,
And so please help me to cross this trouble giving life.
Aathinasaya janur mama punya ruche,
Durithou gabharou paripoorna bhuva,
Sujaganya maganyamapunyaruchim,
Janatarana taraya thapithakam. 5
Oh God who helps people to cross this day to day life,
Oh God who appreciates good acts, quickly destroy my life,
Which has filled the earth with huge amount of sins committed,
Due to my infinite interest in evil and sin, all my life.
Bhava karaka narakahaaraka hey,
Bhavatharaka pathakadaraka hey,
Hara Sankara kinkara karma chayam,
Janatarana taraya thapithakam. 6
Oh God who helps people to cross this day to day life,
Who is the creator of the world, who liberates one from hell,
Who is the destroyer of the world and who uplifts sinners,
Oh God Shankara, please save this, your slave from his existence.
Trishithaschirmasmi sudhaam hitha may,
Aachyutha chinmaya dehi vadanya vara,
Athimohaavasena vinashtakrutham,
Janatarana taraya thapithakam. 7
Oh God who helps people to cross this day to day life,
I am very thirsty for life giving nectar of knowledge,
Oh infallible one, Oh blissful one, please give it to me,
Who has lost everything due to a great delusion, Oh giver of boons.
Pranamami namami, namami bhavam,
Bhava janma kruthi prani shoodanakam,
Guna heena mananthamitham saranam,
Janatarana taraya thapithakam. 8
Oh God who helps people to cross this day to day life
I bow to you, I salute you, and I salute the God who is the originator,
Oh God who removes the fear in the mind of animals who are born,
Oh God who is beyond qualities, Oh limitless one, I surrender to you.

Lord Sri Rama
Lord Rama is one of the avatara of Lord Vishnu. He is regarded as one of the Supreme dieties of Hindus and also a for every one. He is an ideal son, husband, brother, a king and also for truth and morality. The Hindu Mythology regards that Lord Rama is in Threta Yug which was described in “Ramayan” written by a sanskrit poet Rishi Valimiki . “Ramayana is regarded as one of two epic books which included Mahabharata. Vamiki and also later Tulasi das’s “Ramacharithamanas” also became popular and strengthen lord rama as one the Ideal dieties of hinduism.
Lord Rama along with wife Sita, brother Lakshmana, his follower Hanuman all together worshiped by hindus. The Life of Lord rama is full of sacrifies and also teaches that mankind to lead a truthful life and within the limits and precepts of the Vedic tradition and discipline. He is also refered as Maryadha- Purushothama, which literally means the Perfect Man. Lord Rama who has sacrified his thrown and goes to forest for 14 years. along with wife Sita and brother lakshmana saying that they can’t live without serving him(seeing). Later in forest Sita was kidnapped by Ravana and later with the help of Sugriva, hanuman and vanaras, lord Rama killed ravana and returns and rules Ayodha which is refered as “Rama-Rajyam.”
Lord Rama’s life shows that how a brother like lakshmana, also how a wife like sita follower and worshiper like hanuman should be there. Also how a great king like Ravana died with his ahankara and his own deeds and crossing the morality. So with Rama his follower hanuman is worshiped as one of the diety for hindus for his surrenderness, love and bhakti towards rama.
Festivals of Lord Rama :

Ardha Nareeswara Ashtakam
Translated by P. R. Ramachander
Thisgreat stotra is a prayer to Lord Shiva in the form of Ardha Nareeswara.According to the references, I have it is written by a sage calledUpamanyu. But in my search of the web, I found that it is included as awork of Adi Sankaracharya by no less a person than the great SwamiSivananda Himself. Since I am too insignificant to pass a judgment onthis issue, I am giving below, the two versions (which are slightlydifferent), first the version by Sage Upamanyu and the second versionby Adhi Sankara.
Version-1 [By Sage Upamanyu]

Ganesh Chalisa in English
Glory to Lord Ganesh, the Divine Son of Goddess Girija, the cause of all auspiciousness and intelligence. Ayodha Dass (the composer of these verses) humbly requests that every one be blessed with the boon of being fearless.
O Glorious Lord, consort of Parvati You are most merciful. You always bless the poor and pious devotees. Your beautiful form is adorned with the moon on Your forehead and on your ears are earrings of snakes’ hood.
The holy Ganges flows from your matted hair. The saints and sages are attracted by Your splendid appearance. Around Your neck is a garland of skulls. White ash beautifies Your Divine form and clothing of lion’s skin adorns Your body.
O Lord, the beloved daughter of Maina on Your left adds to Your splendid appearance. O Wearer of the lion’s skin, the trishul in Your hand destroys all enemies.
Nandi and Shri Ganesh along with Lord Shiva appear as beautiful as two lotuses in the middle of an ocean. Poets and philosophers cannot describe the wonderful appearance of Lord Kartikeya and the dark complexioned Ganas (attendants).
O Lord, whenever the Deities humbly sought Your assistance, You kindly and graciously uprooted all their problems. You blessed the Deities with Your generous help when the demon Tarak outraged them and You destroyed him.
O Lord, You sent Shadanan without delay and thus destroyed the evil ones Lava and Nimesh. You also destroyed the demon Jalandhara. Your renown is known throughout the world.
O Lord, Purari, You saved all Deities and mankind by defeating and destroying the demons Tripurasura. You blessed Your devotee Bhagirath and he was able to accomplish his vow after rigorous penance.
O Gracious One, devotees always sing Your glory. Even the Vedas are unable to describe Your greatness. No one is as generous as You.
Lord, when the ocean was churned and the deadly poison emerged, out of Your deep compassion for all, You drank the poison and saved the world from destruction. Your throat became blue, thus You are known as Nilakantha.
When Lord Rama worshipped You, He became victorious over the king of demons, Ravan. When Lord Rama wished to worship Thee with one thousand lotus flowers, the Divine Mother, to test the devotion of Shri Ram, hid all the flowers at Your request.
O Lord, You kept on looking at Shri Ram, who wished to offer His lotus-like eyes to worship Thee. When You observed such intense devotion, You were delighted and blessed Him. You granted His heart’s desire.
Glory be unto You O Gracious, Infinite, Immortal, All-pervading Lord. Evil thoughts torture me and I keep on traveling aimlessly in this world of mundane existence. No relief seems to be coming my way.
O Lord! I beseech Your help and see your divine blessing at this very moment. Save and protect me. Destroy my enemies with Your Trishul. Release me from the torture of evil thoughts.
O Lord, when I am in distress, neither my parents, brothers, sisters nor loved ones can relieve my suffering. I depend only on You. You are my hope. Eliminate the cause of this tremendous torture and bless me with Your compassion.
O Lord, You bless the down-trodden with prosperity and grant wisdom to the ignorant. Lord, due to my limited knowledge, I omitted to worship Thee. Please forgive me and shower Your grace upon me.
O Lord Sankar, You are the destroyer of all miseries. You remove the cause of all obstacles and grant Your devotees eternal bliss. The saints and sages meditate upon Thy most beautiful form. Even celestial beings like Sharad and Narad bow in reverence to You.
O Lord, prostrations to You. Even Brahma is unable to describe Thy greatness. Whosoever recites these verses with faith and devotion receives Your infinite blessings.
Devotees who chant these verses with intense love become prosperous by the grace of Lord Shiva. Even the childless wishing to have children, have their desires fulfilled after partaking of Shiva-prasad with faith and devotion.
On Trayodashi (13th day of the dark and bright fortnights) one should invite a pandit and devotedly make offerings to Lord Shiva. Those who fast and pray to Lord Shiva on Trayodashi are always healthy and prosperous.
Whosoever offers incense, prasad and performs aarti to Lord Shiva, with love and devotion, enjoys material happiness and spiritual bliss in this world and hereafter ascends to the abode of Lord Shiva. The poet prays that Lord Shiva removed the suffering of all and grants them eternal bliss.
O Universal Lord, every morning as a rule I recite this Chalisa with devotion. Please bless me so that I may be able to accomplish my material and spiritual desires
